Description

This building, designed by architects Konstantīns Pēkšēns and Eižens Laube, was erected in 1903. As are the surrounding edifices on Alberta Street, this one is also considered a significant Art Nouveau landmark in Riga.

The apartment No. 9, where the famous painter and one of the founders of Latvian national professional fine arts Jānis Rozentāls and his wife, Finnish singer Elli Forssell from 1904 until 1915, has been turned into museum. From 1906 until 1908, as a lodger also the great Latvian writer Rūdolfs Blaumanis lived here.

The visitors can view the Art Nouveau period apartment interior and Jānis Rozentāls’ creative work in the environment in which the artist worked, and where many important Latvians working in the field of culture came to visit at the beginning of the 20th century.
