It is known that the first Jewish cemetery in Liepāja was established in 1803. It was located in the current port area at Kalpaka Street 5, 7/9.
The modern Jewish cemetery at 20 Cenkones Street was officially registered by the authorities only in 1867, although burials had been conducted there earlier.
Currently, the Livas Cemetery covers an area of 5.5 hectares. It has been expanded several times and received its current name in 1940.
The burial records of the Livas Cemetery have been preserved since September 22, 1889.
For a significant number of people buried in the Jewish section of the Livas Cemetery before 1945, there are no descendants to care for their graves, as almost all the Jews of Liepāja were executed during the Holocaust.
