In 1772 was built a second wooden church at Ģipka meaning that there have been at least two other churches before the current one. With the help of Dundaga’s landlord Osten-Saken’s family in 1860 was built a beautiful and impressive church – longitudinal building with apse, sacristy and huge square-plan tower with the end of pyramid.
Also there was a time when the rubble-wall church was used as a navigation object for ship locating. In 1979 the church burnt to the ground and all that was left of it were stone walls.
The restoration of the church happened in two stages. The first one lasted from 1992 to 1997, during this time was made the restoration project and obtained financial help in order to build the church’s reinforced concrete walls and to set up the shingle roof. The second stage began in 2000 when the church received unselfish efforts and support of Valdis and Daina Randes. In these 10 years to the restoration of the church it received, approximately, 10 000 Ls donations in order to reconstruct the church, transfer organs and to restore set up them.
On October 9, 2010 was the opening of the church, exactly when the church had its 150 anniversary.
