In 50s of 19th century or maybe earlier in the area of nowadays Sinica Street outside the city border was put the foundation-stone of Režica Cemetery Commune.
The beginning for everything was the cemetery where the daughter (died on 20th April, 1859) of famous Režica merchant Lūks Masļeņņikovs-Manonī was buried. Her place of burial and monument has been preserved until nowadays.
Already then, along with the cemetery there was the church, which was situated in rather poor house. The preaching house was built in 1895, but in 1906 it was remarkably re-built erecting the belfry with 3 bells and with this the building got modern outlook. The especial pride of the preaching house is its bells. They are moulded in 1905 in the society of A.S.Lavrovs in Gatchin. One of them weights 4832 kg and is the biggest bell in Latvia. The bell clapper alone is 200 kg heavy.
In the change of 19th and 20th centuries the old-believer complex was created. In 1911 there was the preaching house with the belfry and stoops, poorhouse, house for the housekeeper and teacher; the several household buildings formed the complex.
The museum is now opened in the premises of Rezekne Old-Believers Cemetery Commune and it reveals the daily routine and lifestyle of Latgalian old-believers. In one of the rooms the collected items reflect the church life; other has the ethnographical staff in it. The museum can be visited if agreed beforehand on the visiting time.
